I was home a little early today so I got pens cleaned early so we could watch the season premier of NCIS and NCIS:LA. NCIS was good and we are looking forward to next week and the season. NCIS:LA wasn't so good. Not really caring if we watch this one regularly.
The house is so warm now. It is so nice to have the wood stove going! Tom didn't want to get it going, but I figure we can keep getting wood and it doesn't cost nearly as much as the fuel! And, the house is warm! How good is that! It's great! And, having the house warm in the morning really makes getting out of bed for these old bones so much nicer and easier!
We had a few flurries fall tonight while we were feeding the dogs. Don't know that it will produce any amounts that we will see on the ground tomorrow, but we will see when we wake up.

Sunday ... not a day of rest!
Tried really hard to sleep in this morning but couldn't get comfortable all night ... muscles just hurt everywhere! By 7:30 this morning I was hurting to much to stay in bed. Got my day going by having my friend Lynn come over to work on grooming Red Fred. We did it inside where it is warm! Fred loved the attention and he looks soooo much better! However, while Lynn was grooming I was cuddling with him and discovered that he has a broken canine tooth!! Well, it has been broken off for years, but I noticed this morning that it is now split in two also!! So, Lynn is going to schedule him to see Dr. O for removal of the tooth this coming Friday! After the grooming session, we loaded up in the truck and went to the property... Lynn went with us!! We got the sand unloaded and a load of wood in the truck in no time! Thanks for the help Lynn! We are home now and I am headed to make dinner - steaks! Then, it's time to head out and clean pens and play with the dogs.... Want to get it done early tonight so we can relax a bit tonight before starting the week back at work tomorrow!!

TGI ... Saturday Night ...
The girls, Cheyanne & Sioux, were good at the vet today. Chey's foot has a small surface tumor on it that needs to come off before it gets too cold. It would have a tendancy to get frostbite if it's not removed. She also needs to have her teeth cleaned... they look cruddy and are starting to cause problems with her gums. Sioux has small tumors on her eye lids that need to be removed! These girls turned 9 years old this month (they are sisters). I hope they aren't starting to fall apart!! They are the leaders in Tom's team for this year!! :o)
We have a load of black sand in the back of the truck to take to the property tomorrow... Tom isn't very happy with me for getting that instead of just pit run gravel. He doesn't think the black sand will work as well.... we have a big load of it so it's gonna have to be good enough for this run. I offered to take it out of the truck in our driveway and go get more pit run, but he said not to bother... we would just use the black sand.
There has been some new action on the road improvements on Benn Lane. There is a guy that is looking to build a subdivision down at the end of Benn Lane. It shouldn't cut off our access to the winter trails, but it could definately cause problems is folks move in there and have loose dogs or other animals in the area when we are trying to run by there as the trail we generally run on will go right by the new houses. We definately have to look to move in the next year or so!! I am so not wanting to live in this area with all of the continued growth. We have so much more traffic on the road now and I am afraid the trails are gonna get more use to. We really need to look at moving up to the property next summer. The question is... do we sell our house with the 10 acres or just look to rent it for now. Either way, we will need to do some work on it to get it in shape for either avenue. The thought of selling it and getting out from under the mortgage, taxes, insurance, and all of that stuff is a nice thought. But, if we rent it for a monthly rent that will cover all of that and then some we could hold on to it and have it as investment property in our later years... and maybe even have it to move back into down the road when we are old and feable and looking to just live here and not run a dog team around here... Hmmmmm ... got some heavy thinking to do!
Well, I need to go get some more things done this lovely Saturday afternoon.... like splitting & piling some wood and cleaning pens ... while it's not raining!!

A rainy Friday... and a busy weekend ahead ...
The good thing is the weekend is here but it was raining when we got home tonight and hasn't really stopped all night. This was a LONG week and I am glad the weekend is here. Although, it is shaping up to be another busy weekend... Tomorrow morning I am going to head to the gravel pit to get the pick up truck loaded with some pit run gravel to take up to the property to fill in the hole that we didn't get completely filled in due to the malfunction of the rental tractor last weekend. Tomorrow afternoon, Cheyanne & Sioux (9 year old sisters) have an appointment with the vet to get her opinion of a couple of growths. Cheyanne has a wart like thingy on the top of her back foot. It isn't growing much and hasn't changed much, but we want to have it checked out before we get too far into the winter. I discovered Sioux has a growth on her upper eyelid the other night. Not sure if that can be removed by our vet or if she will have to be sent to an eye specialist... if we even have one in the state any more??? Sunday we are headed to the property to unload the gravel and get a load of wood. Won't be long and we will need that wood to keep us warm!! There is snow in the forecast for next week!!! :o)

Time to start updates again!
I can't believe it's already September 2009!!! I am going to try to start putting regular updates on here for the happenings of the kennel and our lives so those that are interested can come here to see what is going on. I will start things off with just an over view of the last year or so...
Almost a year ago, I left my job at the clinic - where I had worked for 9 years!! I had decided to start my own business. I was going to become a dog groomer! That was a short lived dream because shortly after that, I was finally diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis! I had been in pain since August and had figured it was mostly related to stress at work only to find out that it was actually a real thing, not just in my head!! I am still battling the pain and hope to have it under better control in the next month or two as I start on new meds. Anyway, because of the RA diagnosis, I wasn't able to start the dog grooming business. I moved on to trying another avenue that Tom & I had been batting around for some time... a document scanning business. In this business, I take documents that businesses or individuals have in storage and scan them to an electronic format so they can have the documents stored on a CD rather than in lots of boxes!! It is something that EVERYONE thinks is a great idea and wants to do... but not right now. This economy sucks and everyone is being cautious with their outlay of funds. I can understand, but wish something would break open in this business. Because of the lack of takers I have decided to go back to work and just two weeks ago I started working at Adient Physical Therapy in Fairbanks as the Business Office Manager. I am hoping the document scanning business will be something I can do as a 2nd job working on it at home. Eventually, I would like the document scanning business to support me/us but for now, it will have to grow slowly. Tom is still working as the Service Manager for Northern Business Systems.
The kennel is holding steady at around 25 dogs. This might be the year that Jen, our kennel partner, is able to actually take a full team to her house to have for the winter!! We have been raising pups/dogs to fill out a team for her for many years!! It has finally come to a point that she can take them and enjoy having a team of her own - ready made!
Well, I am tired and have a horrible headache tonight so I am going to stop now and will continue adding more updates as I have time and think of things to write about. It won't be long though before I can start posting about running the teams!!
