Summer time in Alaska!

Hello! Just a quick blog to get this going! I am going to try really, really hard to keep this updated with the happenings in the kennel. This way, if anyone wants to know what is going on they can check anytime and I won't have to send out e-mails to everyone in our inbox.

So, to get this started... here is what is happening:

On December 22nd, 2006 we discovered that Kako (one of our Mackenzie River Huskies) was VERY pregnant! So, off to the vet's office we went to get an x-ray. The x-ray showed no less then 7 puppies in there! And Dr. May said they would likely be born in the next few days. Kako and mother nature conspired against us and the pups were actually born 5 days later on Decebmer 27th! There were 8 healthy puppies born. Since we didn't even know she was prego we certainly didn't have any idea who the father of these beautiful pups happened to be! DNA testing was conducted (thanks to the help of the local MRH breeder) and it was determined that the pups were not fathered by Gateway (the other MRH that might have been the dad). So, that mean that Patton (a freight husky mix) was the dad! We found homes for 5 of them and today we only have Tanner, Shasta and Dude still in the kennel!

More recently, the news of the kennel was that our little MRH house dog, Emenem, had a grand mal seizure on Friday, May 18th. Thankfully, I was home at the time and able to get him out of the pen and into the house. He was out of it for a good 45 minutes after the 30 second seizure. It was scary, but having gone thru this many times in the past not to upsetting for me. We are watching him closely in hopes that this is an isolated seizure.

It's time to head out to the pens and get the cleaning done so I will sign off for now. Please check back regularly if you would like updates on the kennel.

Happy Trails!
